Fail Words
There are things I want
That I ask you for
When you're not looking
Or listening
I speak
And leave
The words in the tight spaces
Between my teeth
Pass them silently to you
When we breathe
Hot hard gasps
Against our needs
And yet you never seem to hear
And so I never seem to be
Satisfied in this thing
We insist
On calling love
When we both know
It's merely more
Of the same things as before
Because
By now
We are old enough to pretend
We never made mistakes
And so it must
Be someone else
To blame
So I speak
And share
And shout
My needs
When you're furthest away from me
And you offer lies
And apologies
As freely as you please
Smiles plastered
On empty faces
And we take this as a sign
We are no good
No fun
No one
Will be the thing we need
No one
Will ever hear us speak
So we go our separate ways
Cycles idle
Now make haste
To start things
We will never finish
Never win at
Never know
There are things we want
But we always
Fail to grow
That I ask you for
When you're not looking
Or listening
I speak
And leave
The words in the tight spaces
Between my teeth
Pass them silently to you
When we breathe
Hot hard gasps
Against our needs
And yet you never seem to hear
And so I never seem to be
Satisfied in this thing
We insist
On calling love
