Summer Words
With its eager magic
Summer spurned us
Into each other's arms
Then in an instant
Summer burned us
Leaving us dizzy
With its heat
Faint and weak
We stumbled forward
Blindly
Throats too dry to speak
What were we now
In this moment
Brittle, broken spirits
Words were tinged
With the smoke
Of broken promises
And we begged
Silently
For the shelter
Of clouds
To bear this sun
For the gift
Of rain
To cleanse
renew
revive
This love
We thought we'd known
We prayed
For the days
Before we had run
Foolishly into this summer
For the nights
When breezes kissed
Our skin with the spring
Of love
The soft buds of love
We reached out
To each other
In hopes
Of finding that place
But the summers
Were too much
And we burned
So quickly
That
We never
Reached our fall
