Silence Words
After all these years
of listening
the silence
is so hard to hear
so heavy in the air
I fight to breathe
fight to see
a way around it
a way to be
okay
without our words
to keep us warm
the chill
of the cold shoulder
is overwhelming
I see his eyes
not seeing me
and I am seemingly
not free
to start another
conversation
as,
we are frozen
at
the last one
holding our breaths
at this pause
and I,
effectively the cause
my perceived silence
was loud enough
to drown him out
and now I’m sitting,
waiting,
hoping,
for his voice
to come back
and his eyes to see me
like they did
right before
our words
took this turn
and stopped
being heard
