Rain Words

It rained last night

The smell of wet concrete

Was sweet

A reminder

Of something

I need

Something I see

Behind my eyes

When we speak

Something new

Washing away

The week

The month

The years

Undone

By the gentle crush

Of pounding

Rain

Revitalize

Regain

The strength it takes

To maintain

My composure

Over the phone for

Just a little while

Cause we are

Far

Apart

For just a little while

Longer

Lips

Lasting only because

Of the strength

Of what was

Right before

You went away

Right before

I realized that I

Maybe wanted you

To stay

Cool breeze doesn’t

Cool needs

But instead

Moves me

To decidedly delicate debauchery

Like you’d do it

Soft

Slow

So

I moan

So my breath

Forgets

Itself

Then lets itself

Out in a rush

From

My wet pleading mouth

Now

Now

Now

You whisper

Cause you’re gentle

Cause your hands

Are lost on me

And your mouth

Is incomplete

Without my own

And I’m gone

Somewhere

Else entering

Some quiet place

Where heat is pressed

On my face

And my heart is running

Some desperate race

And the rain

Catches

The trace of your name

In the wind

As I sing

Tears of ache

Against my pillow

Teeth clenched

Jaw tight

I smell the dampness

Of the rain

And my want for you

Tonight

Tight

Like you like

Tongued tied for the right

Reasons

The seasons change

Outside my window

And I know

That somehow

The wet concrete

Reminds me

Of us

Hard and sweet

Gentle beat

Natural

And new

All at once

Eyes close slow

Yes

Am

Done
