Eve Words

Used to be that we

Spent hours

In your room

Talking

About nothing in particular

And everything

That everyone else

Never let us say

So we

Spilled

So many secrets

Into the cups

Of us

On that bed

And

Laid out on that carpet

Thick, soft, safe beneath my head

But oh so bad for the knees

Yes we did those things

Too

You

On yours

And me on mine

And I'm hoping to hell

You make me come this time

Before my knees give out

Outside we were simple

Solid, going strong

Best friends fending

For ourselves

Against a hard knock world

Late nights

Lost in music

Loud then soft

So we could discuss

The finer points of lyrics,

Love, life and us

At our prime

We were wasting

Our time

The way that suit us

Soon us

We, you and I

Too tested the patience

Of skin pressed tight

Buttons

Glutton for punishment

Beneath greedy eyes

And hands

And pants

Were after thoughts

Thrown across

The room

Leaving traces of cotton fields

As we toiled under

Our hot suns lust

We were high on us

Easy love as I

Introduced you too new corners

Of me, ones you only saw in jeans

That screamed to you

In hushed tones

Lush curves on small bones

And I settled nicely in your lap

Speaking freely, I

Took long pulls of you

Tasted like salt and sex

And the regrets

We never let across our sights

Hiding however

Happened to work best

On any given night

Give in right

Or don't

I don't remember

If I ever even tried

We only ever really lied

To ourselves

Our bones bared just enough

To see the human

Parts of each

That we ignored

Its more than I ever thought it'd be

But we don't have it anymore

And I find myself

Smiling while I wonder

If we even had it in us

Before

Back when we were friends

Bent

Of fighting life's demons

With any strength

We could muster between lust

And the eve of

Those moments left when

All those moons

And suns were done with us
